Cross-season dressing doesn’t have be complicated. It’s really about being prepared for weather that’s starting to shift, picking colours that fortify against monsoon grey, and choosing fabric that lets you layer (this last one’s probably the most important).
Think about fabric
Simply put, an Indian summer means cotton, and that spills over well over into this brief dalliance with monsoon before the cold really hits the north of India, when you want cozy layers and corduroy (or resort wear if you’re always dreaming of sunnier climes like us). Our womenswear and Travel lines are designed keeping this in mind, so while our hottest months were plied with a wash of pristine white and flight-friendly moss, our Autumn line is peppered with bright crimson, cool cobalt, and a super-vibrant Madras check. They’re cut from lightweight cotton, and moisture-wicking linen, so your skin will breathe even in the most humid conditions, and you stay looking fresh from dusk till dawn.
Think about layers
We’ve done styles that can be layered, and with cotton that’s as easy on the skin as ours, feel free to pair our multi-check sari with our newest Nico dress for a night out…no problem. If you’ve chosen to go with one of our weightier linens like our Strappy Slip Dress, but are worried your shoulders might get cold, just throw on our Check Kurta (in the lightest cotton we offer), underneath. These are clever pieces that’ve been designed to fit our idea of a wardrobe that you can dip into perennially with ease.
Think about pairing
If you’re uncertain about wearing a print that’s unlike anything you’ve ever owned, the failsafe way around it is to pair it with a neutral—in our case, pair our Madras check with any of the numerous whites we do all year round and you’re golden.
Always think about accessories!
Lastly, when it comes to accessorising, always give first precedence to proportion. If you’re already clad in a sari with a dress as a stand-in for a blouse, throw on a pair of irregular hoops in a modest size and wear flowers, for instance. Statement jewellery is best paired with outfits that show a little skin (just a hint if you’re modest), but our top rule is that there are no rules so run wild with your own vibe and tell us how you’re transitioning into the next season, we really want to know.
