VegNonVeg

Bhane’s sister brand, VegNonVeg is a new multi-brand, boutique sneaker store that is a sneakerheads delight. Founded by Anand Ahuja and Abhineet Singh, the store makes getting your mitts on limited runs and special edition trainers much less difficult (they recently launched the Kendrick Lamar Reeboks), and we sat down Uday Shanker, VegNonVeg’s brand manager, to discuss brands, their story, and what we can look forward to.

How did VegNonVeg come into existence?

VegNonVeg was born out of passion and frustration. A passion for kicks and the frustration of not having access to them. Sneakerheads in India have never had one place where they can go and look at the hottest releases from multiple brands. VegNonVeg will be that space.

Tell us about the story behind the name of the store.

VegNonVeg is essentially an Indian phrase you see on restaurant signs all around the country, to show people that they serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. In the same way, we aim to cater to all kinds of sneakerheads, whether they are into basketball retros or the latest tech runners. It also has to do with the founders of the store – Anand Ahuja is a vegetarian, and loves modern tech infused shoes which are made of mesh and advanced plastics, while Abhineet Singh loves old school sneakers which are mostly made of leather even today. Veg and Non-Veg.

Your favourite pair of sneakers?

The Nike Air Max 97 ‘Kashima Antlers’. Slapping elephant print on a sleek futuristic sneaker that was inspired by Japanese Bullet trains is probably the best thing Nike ever did. And that teal air unit is just beautiful.

Things to look forward to with VegNonVeg?

More sneakers! We plan on adding a lot more exclusives to our range. We also have a lot of exciting things planned for the store, like a vinyl station with turntables, sneaker sale/swap meets, documentary screenings and performances.
